Shivan Mehta, MD, MBA, MSHP, is an Innovation Faculty member at PC3I and Associate Chief Innovation Officer at Penn Medicine. He leads a team at the Center for Health Care Innovation that develops, tests, and implements new health care delivery interventions across the University of Pennsylvania’s health system. Current projects focus on connecting with patients outside of traditional venues and managing the health of populations. Dr. Mehta also conducts health services research looking at how healthcare systems can leverage behavioral economics, information technology, and care redesign to improve population health outcomes. He is an investigator in over 20pragmatic trials of healthcare delivery conducted in close partnership with clinical operations in areas such as colorectal cancer screening, hypertension management, breast cancer screening, hepatitis C screening, and joint replacement surgery.

He is also an Associate Professor of Medicine and Health Policy at the Perelman School of Medicine and affiliated faculty at the LDI Center for Health Incentives and Behavioral Economics. He is Co-Director of the Quality Improvement and Delivery Science program in Gastroenterology. Dr. Mehta received his bachelor’s degree in economics from Yale University, his medical degree and master’s in health policy research from the University of Pennsylvania, and his MBA in healthcare management from the Wharton School. He was a resident in internal medicine at New York Presbyterian Hospital/Columbia and a fellow in gastroenterology at the University of Pennsylvania Health System.
