Innovation Accelerator

PC3I’s Innovation Accelerator Program funds initiatives that create and test innovative and transformational solutions to challenges in cancer care delivery. Part of PC3I since 2019, the Innovation Accelerator currently has three tracks: Research Innovation, Practice Innovation, and Geriatric Oncology Innovation (administered by the Center for Cancer & Aging). Projects can focus on any phase of the cancer care continuum, from primary prevention and early detection through treatment and survivorship.

Research Innovation Track

FY27 applications due Sept 30!

The Research Innovation Track prioritizes high-risk, high-reward projects that have long-term goals of transforming and advancing the field of cancer care delivery research.

This track is open only to PC3I Faculty and Fellows, with budgets of up to $50K over 12 months.

Practice Innovation Track

Not currently accepting applications.

The Practice Innovation Track prioritizes projects that have the potential to effect meaningful positive impact for patients, clinicians, staff, and the health care system.

This track is open only to individuals and teams within Penn Medicine. Award includes up to 50% of an Innovation Manager, additional staff time as necessary, and up to $60K to accomplish project goals.

Geriatric Oncology Innovation Track

Fy27 applications due Sept 30!

The Geriatric Oncology Innovation Track prioritizes projects that will improve care for older adults with cancer or advance scientific understanding of cancer and aging.

This track is open to all faculty, staff, and trainees from Penn Medicine and the University of Pennsylvania. Budgets may be up to $100K for one year, with the potential for a one-year extension and an additional $100K.

Target Projects

Across all three tracks, projects should:

  • Be well-defined: Great projects start with clear questions or problems.
  • Be short-term: Project goals should be able to be accomplished within 6-9 months.
  • Think big: Projects should have the potential to make sizeable, sustainable change within the world of cancer care at Penn, as measured in patient-related outcomes, key operational metrics, and/or financial impact.

  • Proposals due September 30, 2026, 11:59pm (EST)
