Lauren M. Hamel, PhD is a visiting faculty member at the Penn Center for Cancer Care Innovation (PC3I), Associate Professor and Vice Chair of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion, at Wayne State University School of Medicine, and Co-Program Leader of Population Science and Disparities Research at the Karmanos Cancer Institute in Detroit, Michigan. Her research program focuses on identifying and mitigating disparities in patient-provider communication. Additionally, her work focuses on organizational behavior with the goal of enhancing the effectiveness and efficiency of hospitals, oncology centers, and other clinical settings.
Prior to joining Wayne State University and PC3I, Dr. Hamel received her BA, MA, and PhD from Michigan State University, all in the field of Communication Science. She completed a Postdoctoral Research Fellowship in Organizational Behavior at the Business School of Dublin City University in Dublin, Ireland in 2013, and a Postdoctoral Research Fellowship in Communication and Behavioral Oncology at Wayne State University School of Medicine and the Karmanos Cancer Institute in 2015.
