Genevieve Kanter, PHD

Genevieve P. Kanter is an economist whose research focuses on regulatory issues in translational medicine and biomedical technologies; industry relationships and industry influence in medicine and public health; and the optimal provision of healthcare services within population health contexts. Methodologically, she specializes in statistical methods used for causal inference.

 

She holds a primary appointment as Research Assistant Professor in the Department of Medicine (Division of General Internal Medicine) and a secondary appointment in the Department of Medical Ethics and Health Policy, both in the Perelman School of Medicine. She is also an economist with the Penn Center for Precision Medicine and a senior fellow at the Leonard Davis Institute for Health Economics. Professor Kanter received a PhD in Economics and in Sociology from the University of Chicago, and completed research fellowships at Princeton University, Massachusetts General Hospital, and Harvard University. Her work has been published in leading medical and health policy journals, including the New England Journal of Medicine, JAMA, Health Affairs, Milbank Quarterly, and the American Journal of Public Health.
