American Journal of Managed Care Features Lawrence Shulman Video
December 21, 2019Lawrence Shulman, MD, Deputy Director for Clinical Services at the Abramson Cancer Center and a member of the Penn Center for Cancer Care Innovation (PC3I) Advisory Group, is featured in a video interview on the American Journal of Management Care (AJMC) website.
AJMC is a journal aimed at 48,500 management care physicians, medical directors, clinical decision makers, benefit managers and other health care professionals.
“We’re focused a lot on trying to remove low-value care,” Shulman told the journal. “We’ve worked hard at trying to reduce unnecessary emergency department visits, unnecessary hospitalizations, and unnecessary imaging, but we still have more of that than we’d like to have.”
“When you compare the costs of cancer care in the U.S. versus the United Kingdom, France, Germany, Sweden,” Shulman continued, “care here in the U.S. is much more expensive. I think it is because there is still a moderate amount of low-value care.”
Shulman is a practicing oncologist and Director of the Center for Global Cancer Medicine at the Abramson Cancer Center.
