Roger Kim, MD, MSCE, is an Innovation Faculty member at the Penn Center for Cancer Care Innovation (PC3I) and an Assistant Professor of Medicine in the Section of Interventional Pulmonology and Thoracic Oncology within the Division of Pulmonary, Allergy and Critical Care. He is an interventional pulmonologist with clinical expertise in minimally invasive diagnostic and therapeutic thoracic procedures in addition to being a physician-scientist clinical investigator. His research seeks to optimize the diagnostic process in thoracic oncology, with particular focuses on lung cancer screening and risk stratification and management of pulmonary nodules. Dr. Kim’s research is supported by funding from the National Cancer Institute, American Cancer Society, Respiratory Health Association, and the University of Pennsylvania McCabe Fund. His work has been published in leading journals, including Annals of Internal Medicine, Radiology, and the American Journal of Respiratory and Critical Care Medicine.

Dr. Kim completed his undergraduate and medical school training at Yale University before graduating from the Yale Traditional Internal Medicine residency program at Yale-New Haven Hospital with an Investigative Distinction. He then completed fellowships in Pulmonary and Critical Care and Interventional Pulmonology at the University of Pennsylvania, during which time he also earned a Master of Science in Clinical Epidemiology. He has received the American Thoracic Society (ATS) Thoracic Oncology Assembly Early Career Achievement Award, the University of Pennsylvania Department of Medicine Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Outstanding Faculty Abstract Award, the University of Pennsylvania Department of Medicine Bradley Clinical Research Fellow Award, and the Annals of Internal Medicine Top Peer Reviewer Award. He currently serves as the Chair of the ATS Thoracic Oncology Assembly Early Career Professionals Working Group and the Co-Chair of the ATS Interventional Pulmonology Advisory Group. In his free time, Roger enjoys playing ice hockey, making music, and spending quality time with his wife, son, and dog.
