Laura Yasaitis, PhD was a PC3I innovation fellow during her post-doctoral fellowship at the Leonard Davis Institute of Health Economics at the University of Pennsylvania. Dr. Yasaitis conducted several projects in cancer payment policy utilizing large administrative claims datasets. In one project, Dr. Yasaitis evaluated insurers that offer health plans covering a narrow subset of providers in an attempt to lower premiums and compete for consumers, so called “narrow networks.” She found that narrow networks are more likely to exclude oncologists affiliated with NCI-Designated or NCCN Cancer Centers. In another project, Dr. Yasaitis evaluated how UnitedHealthcare’s voluntary payment program incentivizing generic cancer drugs affected treatment patterns and healthcare spending for patients with breast, lung, and colorectal cancer. Dr. Yasaitis now lives in Dubai with her family.
