PC3I Welcomes New Faculty and Fellows for 2027
July 10, 2026The Penn Center for Cancer Care Innovation (PC3I) proudly welcomes the addition of nine Innovation Faculty members, six Innovation Fellows, and one Visiting Faculty. The sixteen new PC3I members join our team of top researchers, innovators, and multidisciplinary thought leaders dedicated to creating, testing, and scaling solutions to address the most intractable problems in cancer care.

Eva Berlin, MD
Dr. Berlin’s research interests include radiation-associated cardiovascular toxicity, the implementation of artificial intelligence in radiation oncology workflows, and low-dose radiotherapy for osteoarthritis. As a member of the Thalheimer Center for Cardio-Oncology, she studies the cardiovascular effects of breast radiotherapy, with a focus on reducing radiation exposure to the heart and improving cardiovascular outcomes.
Tessa Cook, MD, PhD
Tessa Cook, MD, PhD is an Associate Professor and the Vice Chair of Practice Transformation in the Department of Radiology at the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia. She completed her doctoral work in quantitative image processing in the Penn Image Computing and Science Laboratory (PICSL). Dr. Cook currently enjoys an academic appointment in radiology that combines her clinical work in cardiovascular imaging with her research and innovation interests in imaging informatics.
Rafe McBeth, PhD, DABR
Dr. McBeth’s central contribution is demonstrating that clinical AI works in practice, at scale. Under his direction, Penn has deployed AI-assisted contouring across 15 treatment sites, supporting more than 30,000 patients over three years with sustained physician adoption above 95 percent and an estimated 15,000 clinical hours returned to patient care.
Alexandria Muench, PsyD
Dr. Muench’s research focuses on the assessment and treatment of insomnia and cancer-related fatigue in patients with cancer and cancer survivors. More recently, her work has expanded to include the implementation of psychosocial and behavioral interventions in oncology settings. She works closely with multidisciplinary teams and provides clinical services across oncology, consultation-liaison, GI, and sleep medicine, and supervises predoctoral psychology trainees on each of these rotations.
Caitlin O’Neill, DNP, RN, OCN, NEA-BC
Caitlin O’Neill, DNP, RN, OCN, NEA-BC is the Clinical Director for Outpatient Oncology and Infusion Services at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania (HUP), where she provides clinical and strategic direction for the HUP-based ambulatory Infusion Suites. Caitlin contributed to many of Infusion Services’ key initiatives, focusing on improving cancer and infusion care delivery; optimizing infusion capacity and access; elevating patient experiences; and enhancing evidence-based nursing practice.
Robert Schnoll, PhD
Dr. Schnoll is an implementation scientist and nicotine addiction researcher, leading studies on ways to improve the use and effectiveness of treatments for nicotine dependence, particularly among under-resourced communities, and leading studies evaluating the use of implementation strategies to address practice gaps across medicine, particularly in the context of tobacco use and cancer care.
Abe Segura, MD
Dr. Segura conducts health services research at the intersection of augmented intelligence and behavioral economics to improve diagnostic pathways and population health outcomes among young adults. Current projects focus on studying the effectiveness of existing healthcare delivery interventions designed to increase colorectal cancer screening in young adults and developing a clinical decision support system that optimizes healthcare utilization in young adults with rectal bleeding.
Heather Wachtel, MD, MSTR
Clinically, Dr. Wachtel specializes in the treatment of hormonally active and malignant thyroid, parathyroid and adrenal tumors. Dr. Wachtel’s NIH funded translational research utilizes genomic informatics and imaging approaches to study endocrine and neuroendocrine tumors with the goal of developing novel diagnostic and therapeutic approaches.
Dongming Xu, MD, PhD
Dongming Xu, MD, PhD is an Assistant Professor of Radiology at the Perelman School of Medicine, and Division Head of Thoracic Imaging at Penn Presbyterian Medical Center. Prior to joining Penn, Dr. Xu was Assistant Professor of Radiology at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai.

Matty Triplette, MD, MPH
Dr. Triplette’s research program is focused on primary and secondary lung cancer prevention strategies, integrating methods spanning epidemiology, health services research and implementation science improve clinical care practices and delivery for tobacco cessation and lung cancer screening. They have a particular interest in using community engaged research to partner in the co-design, adaptation and evaluation of multi-level lung cancer prevention strategies in high-risk community settings.

Danyal Ahsan, MD
Danyal Ahsan, MD is currently a resident in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania. His research interests include health services research focused on population-based identification of individuals with hereditary cancer syndromes, development and implementation of AI-based digital tools for hereditary cancer risk assessment, and Markov-based decision analysis of cancer risk management strategies for affected individuals.
Tal Cantor, MD, MScPH
Tal Cantor, MD, MScPH, is a second-year Gynecologic Oncology fellow at the University of Pennsylvania. Her research interests include cancer genetics and quality improvement initiatives aimed at expanding access to both germline and somatic genetic testing for gynecologic malignancies, specifically ovarian cancer, with a particular interest in point-of-care testing.
Feyisope Eweje, MD, MBA
Feyisope Eweje, MD, MBA, is an Internal Medicine resident at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania. He is interested in developing and deploying artificial intelligence to improve precision oncology and cancer care delivery, with a recent focus on digital pathology biomarkers and clinical trial matching.
Angela Liang, MD
Angela Liang, MD is a fellow in Gynecologic Oncology at Penn Medicine. Her current research interests include mitigating barriers to healthcare access through systems-level innovation, with a focus on increasing patient participation and decreasing disparities in clinical trials research.
Aarush Sahni, MSE
Aarush Sahni is a medical student at the Perelman School of Medicine. Previously, Aarush led the development of Coloprep, an AI chatbot deployed across three Penn Medicine sites to guide patients through colonoscopy preparation, and has worked on generalized medical image segmentation and on evaluating foundation models for pathology. He plans to study the human-AI interface in oncology and optimize tools to close the gap between evidence and care delivery.
Kanan Shah, MD
Kanan Shah, MD is a Hematology/Oncology Fellow at the University of Pennsylvania. She is interested in improving cancer care delivery, with a focus on cancer genetics and GI cancers in young adults.
